The Maghreb is a region witnessing major transformations. Since the revolutions in Tunisia and Libya, this region has been at the center of attention of international media.
The Tunisian and Libyan shock waves have resulted in political and social protest movements in Algeria (the Algerian Hirak) ie as well as in Morocco (the Hirak du Rif), a growing democratic opening and attempts to regain control of the situation by the regimes in place. In short, the region is entering a period of democratic instability with elections, debates on the fight against corruption, notable legislative efforts, and progress on the path of decentralization. CESMA has made the study of this metamorphosis one of its main areas of work.
