Economy and finance

This research project proposes an unconventional approach to Tunisia’s relations with the IMF. It offers critical contributions from diverse perspectives to the current authority’s vision, as well as the dominant vision. The project challenges seemingly “taboo” ideas according to the prevailing vision that presents the Monetary Fund reform program as commandments to be definitively implemented. The project also questions President Kais Saied’s approach to the Fund’s programs, which he sees as diktats. It is undoubtedly an unprecedented position held by the state’s highest official. However, it does not offer a clear plan, whether in the negotiation methodology, the content, or alternatives.

In this sense, we propose in “Finance 22” project the possibilities of “thinking out of the box” but also outside the dominant or familiar current. Therefore, the researchers of this project are asking two central questions: are there alternatives to the negotiation methodology or the negotiator to obtain the financing necessary for the Tunisian economy? Is it possible to think at the historical level outside of the dominant tendency, and also at the level of what prevails in the discourse of the current authority?
